PIANOFORTE RECITAL
AT ROTORUA The pupils of Miss Margaret McKenzie gave an enjoyable recital in St. John’s Hall, Rotorua, on Monday evening. The audience was large, and quick to show its appreciation of the talent shown by the performers. Without exception, the items were judged to be of outstanding merit, the pupils displaying the temperament essential to a true interpretation of the law r s of harmony. Among the items were a group of solos and duets played by Betty Urquhart, Ynys Wallis, Betty Johnstone, Jessie Wallace; solos by Miss Maida Quinn, Eileen Wood, Clara Sharpe, Olive Manson, Miss Eva Manson, Miss Doria Griffiths, Miss Dorothy Monk. Miss Ailsa McKenzie’s manipulation of the keyboard evoked considerable attention, lightness of touch and a facile mastery of technique being noticeable features of a fine performance. Miss Maida Quinn is also an accomplished player, imparting to her work a vigorous and finished tone. Vocal items excellently rendered by Miss Giesen and Mr. Buckthought won hearty appreciation, also the accompaniments played by Miss Ailsa McKenzie.
