HEIFETZ

FIRST RECITAL TO-MORROW There was a vei'y large demand for the 7s 6d reservations for the opening recital of Heifetz, which happens at the Town Hall to-morrow (Thursday) evening, and it is quite certain now that this world-renowned violinist will be greeted by record audiences at both concerts, the second and last of which takes place on Saturday night. Extra rows at 7s 6d will be opened to-day at Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd. For his opening recital Heifetz has chosen a programme that will appeal to all tastes, including as it does Charlier’s arrangement of Tommasso Vitali’s “Chaconne,” Mendelssohn's concerto in E Minor (Op. 64), and Schubert’s “Ave Maria.” For his brilliant playing of this fine composition Heifetz was cheered again and again in Wellington, and in Sydney he created a veritable furore of enthusiasm. It is said that Heifetz is most liberal with his encores. The Southern tour of Heifetz has resulted in a series of brilliant triumphs, the scenes of enthusiasm that were exhibited in Dunedin on Saturday night are without a precedent in the musical history of the Dominion. Probably one of the most popular numbers in the programme of Heifetz is Schubert’s “Ave Maria, 1 ' and in Wellington his delighted audience would not permit the famous violinist to leave the platform until he had again played this composition. Other popular compositions which are included in-his opening programme are Mozart’s “Minuet," Tschaikowsky’s “Melodie” and Bazzini’s “Ronde Des Lutins.” Heifetz will be accompanied at the piano by Isodore Achron, who is said to be a brilliant pianist.
