PLACARDS IN NEW YORK
POLICE DISPERSE MOBS By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright Reed. 1.10 p.m. NEW YORK, Tuesday. Twelve thousand people gathered in Union Square, New York at midnight. Placards bearing the words, “Sacco murdered,” were posted up by a Socialist paper. The crowd dispersed quietly without police intervention. Reports throughout the country indicate little response to the call for strikes. In Boston the mounted i:-~ice charged a mob of 300 people who were about to stand with bared heads. At Bunker Hill, as a tribute to Sacco, a thousand motor-car horns were sounded at the time of .the execution. At Cleveland, a Franciscan monastery was bombed shortly after the execution. A clever police coup at San Francisco turned the head of the Sacco parade into the patrol waggons. One hundred and fifty of the d- ionstrators were charged with unlawful assembly. The mounted police at Detroit broke up a mob several • thousands strong, which was attempting to march on the City Hall, knocking their banners to the ground, the crowd dispersed quietly.—A. and N.Z.
