MOTOR-CYCLE TOURISTS
ENTERTAINED AT LUNCH CIVIC SPIRIT IN N.Z. The visiting motor-cyclists, Messrs. J. P. Catley and B. H. Cathrick, have finished their tour as far as New Zealand is concerned. To-morrow morning they leave by train for Rotorua but the visit to the thermal regions is only for the purpose of seeing the wonders. The council of the Auckland Automobile Association gave a luncheon to the cyclists yesterday, the president, Dr. J. IT. Lawry, and the secretary, Mr. M. H. Wynyard, welcoming the visitors. A stranger travelling through New Zealand and seeing scores of towns in a few weeks, could not fail to be impressed with the community spirit in the small centres, said Mr. Castley. A motorist touring Britain would find that small communities lacked the civic spirit of the small towns in New Zealand. To find parks and reserves and substantial buildings in remote parts was something he had not expected. The picturesque English village did not suggest the enterprise and efficiency which characterised many young New Zealand towns. His experience of road conditions in New Zealand, continued Mr. Castley, had extended only over main highways, which were generally superior to the roads in Australia. Mr. Cathrick said that he had been surprised, to to find motorists of the Dominion oo well organised. ■. , ...... Last evening Mr. Cathrick spoke ov i the wireless. Later the visitors gave a lecture in Messrs. Skeates and "White’s showrooms.
