PUKEKOHE BOROUGH

DRAINAGE PROPOSALS The engineer to the Pukekohe Borough Council informed that bodylast night that a sum of £3,650 from the loan authorised some years ago would be available for drainage work A sum of £4,850 would be required to reticulate the business area of the town. . The council expresesd reluctance to make an appeal to the ratepayers for another loan. Advice was received from the Public Trust Office that a repayment of electricity loans totalling £20.000, accumulated sinking funds, amounting to £2,739, would be available for repayment of other debentures. It was agreed to give certain holders of borough debentures totalling £2,500 three months’ notice of redemption of their holdings. In discussing finance, the Mayor pointed out that if the council could obtain the 10 per cent, addition on the sum allocated for roads in the borough loan of £ 84,000 it could bituminise the Paerata, Alauku, and Puni Roads to the borough boundary, thereby saving the ratepayers a considerable annual sum in maintenance. It was decided to try and obtain a Supreme Court ruling as to whether the 10 per cent, addition could be raised on a portion of a loan before the whole loan was spent.
