ON THE 'CHANGE
COALS FIRM MINING IDLE A quiet tone prevailed on the ’Change this morning, though there is healthy inquiry for the better class of securities. Timbers, still in good tone, have steadied, and with no business reported the market is firm at late quotations. Hikurangi Coals (ord.) were dealt with at 3s 4d, and the preference shares continue in good tone, with a firming tendency. Banks command attention on a firm market. Miscellaneous shares are. quiet with little business reported. Wilsons Cement are firm with an upward tendency. Mining is weak and idle, with a big disparity between buyers’ and sellers’ quotations. Gilt-edged stocks continue quiet and in little demand. SALES REGISTERED At yesterday afternoon's call: —Reported: Huddart-Parker (ord.), £2 7s 3d: British Tobacco, £2 16s.
