LATE MR. L. G. MAHON

VICTIM OF CAR SMASH WELL-KNOWN YACHTSMAN Mr. Leo Gladstone Mahon, who was injured in a collision between a breakdown tramcar wid a. motor at the corner of Eden Street and Anzac Avenue on Thursday, died in the Auck**osp*ta* on Saturday, at the age Mr. Mahon, who lived in Saltburn Road, Takapuna, was the youngest son J* 16 * ate Lieutenant-Colonel Owen Manon. He was well known as a yachtsman, having been the honorary secretary of the Royal New Zealand lacht Squadron for some time. Mr. Mahon left; New Zealand as a sergeant-major with the £i£hth Reinforcements and served in mnee and Egypt. After completing a . Bpe £ ial course in artillery at Alderfcnot, he was posted as second-lieuten-ant in the Royal Horse Artillery, being Pi .transferred with the R.F.A. to I'&leatine. Here he was attached to Australian and New Zealand •counted division. As a lieutenant he took part in Lord Allenby’s advance, th r ‘ •^ a * lon is survived by his wife, ne youngest daughter of the late Mr. Robert Frater, and three children.
