THE WORST FEARED

FATAL TAIL-SPINNING Received 9.5 a.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Sunday. Deductions from the increased and decreased pitch of the radio waves wind-driven from the dynamo of the airplane Dallas Spirit indicate that the machine tail-spinned at an altitude of 2,000 ft and plunged at a speed of 200 miles an hour into the ocean. A message from San Diego states that slight hope is expressed by the naval authorities for the safety of the seven fliers, this view following on the test of a rubber-raft similar to the rafts carried by the missing planes.—A. and N.Z.
