Youren and Gill, the opening pair, took the score to 36, but the next two wickeds fell cheaply. Youren batted for an hour and hit two fours and three threes. Shardlow scored 12 in a single over off the New Zealand captain, Lowry. Thomas was out to a fine catch by jjcGiir on the leg boundary. The last jjve wickets only added 52, Merritt bein? responsible for the collapse of the last four men. Blunt and Dempster gave the New Zealanders a fine start, after Oliver had been dismissed for one. Blunt was missed when he had made 10. He and his partner had taken the total to 117, and were still undefeated when stumps were drawn.
