Avondale to Hold Election
BOROUGH VACANCIES MAYOR AND THREE COUNCILLORS election to fill the seats on the Avondale Borough Council vacated by the Mayor, Mr. H. TiaVks, and Councillors W. Pendlebury, J. V. Reisterer and A. J. Edmiston, has been officially fixed for Thursday, September 15. Monday, September 5, is the day decided on for the nomination of candidates. The dates have been announced by the town clerk, Mr. A. Nunns. Owing to the condition of Councillor W. H. Manning, who is at present a patient in the Auckland Hospital, it was not possible to hold a meeting at his bedside as previously suggested, and it is not known when such a course will be possible. The other councillor who was absent from the meeting, Mr. J. E. Ellis, is expected to arrive in Auckland from Fiji on September 4. It is learned that the four councillors who have elected to retain their seats on the Avondale Borough Council have decided to do what is possible to vorry on with urgent work in the borough. Nine works were mentioned as urgent on the agenda paper of the recent meeting, which had such a dramatic termination.
