CHURCH PIONEERS

MEET ON SATURDAY At the invitation of the office-bearers of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Papatoetoe. a very interesting reunion of past and present members of the congregation was held in the school hall on Saturday afternoon, when over one hundred members and friends met, and many were the reminiscences recalled. Some of the old folk journeyed from as far afield as Mahurangi and Morrinsville to accept the officers' hospitality. . The Rev. T. 11. Roseveare occupied the chair, and gave a summary of the progress of the church work, and . also extended a very hearty welcome to one and all. Mr. A. W. Hall, chairman of the Town Board, also had a few words to say, expressing his pleasure of being able to speak to the pioneers of the church. During the afternoon a splendid programme of music was submitted, and judging by the applause, met with the full approval of both young and old. The following contributed items: Mr. O'Hara (Clevedon), recitation; Mrs. F. Carr and Miss R. Daisley, vocal duet: Mrs. McConkey, song; Mr. and Marshall Roseveare, vocal duet; Miss R. Daisley. song; Mrs. F. Carr, song; Mr. Mays, song; Mrs. Carroll (Manurewa), recitation. An interval was called during the musical items to allow the present members to dispense a delightful afternoon tea.
