SEASON NOT A SUCCESS THE BURDEN OF TAXATION The annual report of the Waikau, Racing Club states that the year ended July 31, 1937, from a financial point of view has not been successful £ 348 14s 6d has been transferred to the d?bit of the accumulated fundV Every care has been taken by the executive to reduce expenses to a minimum. but unfortunately, in common with other clubs, a decided decrease in returns for the race meetings inexperienced. owing partly to the general conditions obtaining throughout the Dominion, and to the fact that the weather was unfavourable for both the spring and autumn fixtures. The sum of £8,250 was given in stakes, being a decrease of £SO on the previous year. Totalisator receipts amounted to £14.276 15s 3d, a decrease of £2,420 11s. WIN FOR TREASURY Government taxation amounted to no less than £7,675 19s 2d. The report, emphasises the crying need of racing clubs for some relief from the presen. high taxation. General improvements to the course and grounds have been carried out during the year, and the road through Mr. ReilTyS: property has been completed. giving access to the course from Frankton. Messrs. G. W. VerccK and F. R. Seddon being the only nominees for the offices of president and vice-president respectively, are returned unopposed. For the six vacancies on the comimttee there will be no election, Messrs. Wynn Brown. T. Clarkin, T. Dillon, A. Miller, J. (:. Potts and H. W. Wilson being reelected unopposed.
