Arrest Follows Hamilton Affray
RESIDENT ATTACKED FARM HAND APPREHENDED (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. A determined attack, apparently the outcome of jealousy, is reported to have been made_on W. W. Dillicar, Hamilton, on i hursday evening. It is stated that Mr. Dillicar called in his motor-car at a house where a young nurse lived, to take her for a drive. As he was turning round to put an umbrella in a back seat he saw a man crouching in the shadow of the car. The man sprang at him and a struggle ensued, the assailant breakingclear and getting away. On the return journey the same evening the man, who had, apparently, been hiding in a hedge, sprang out and lunged at Dillicar. A desperate struggle took place, but the assailant was again beaten off and made his escape.
The sequel to the attack came yesterday in the arrest of a farm labourer named Nathaniel Claud Clark, at Eureka. Clark, who is evidently about 40 years old, was charged before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., to-day, on private information. with assaulting William Wood Dillicar, and threatening him with a knife. Complainant was afraid that Clark would do him bodily harm, and asked that accused' be required to enter into sureties to keep the peace. Mr. J. Strong, who appeared for Clark, gave an assurance that there was no immediate danger to Dillicar or the lady concerned. On that assurance no objection was made to the release of Clark from custody, and the case was adjourned till Wednesday next.
