NO SALARY CUTS FOR METRO-GOLDWYN

STRICT ECONOMY CAMPAIGN “TIpHE Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Producing Organisation has united in one common cause” said Mr. Louis B. Mayer, production head of M-G-M , speaking at Culver City. “That cause involves the determination on the part of everyone to abolish all forms of waste and thus obviate any necessity of a uniform wages cut of ten per cent, as proposed. “To ask individuals to accept less than they are entitled to is a retrogressive step that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will not make. It is by a concerted effort on part of all concerned that true economy, by the elimination of waste—waste of time, materials, etc. —will be effected. To attempt to do so in any other way must have disastrous effects on the box office. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer does not seek a reduction in production costs. Instead more money will be spent on individual productions than has been expended in the past, and this additional expenditure will be made with one object in view—to enhance the box office value of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer productions. “We are proud of our past record and will see to it that our future efforts will surpass it. This we can do by unitedly putting our shoulder to the wheel, and producing pictures possessing the utmost in entertainment value, which, after all, is all that interests the exhibitors and the public.
