Wins Jellicoe Handicap

HUNT CUP TO PENDAVIES The Pakuranga Meeting rE annual meeting of the Pakuranga Hunt Club commenced this morning at Ellerslie. The weather, in keeping with the conditions prevailing for several weeks past, was showery, and as a consequence the course was heavy. There was a fair attendance when proceedings started. A two-year-old parade was held prior to the racing, sixteen youngsters participating. Following are the results:—

GREENMOUNT HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE Of £250; about 2£ miles. 4 NUKUTERE (R. Hannon), b g, bv Quin Abbey—Glenopal, syrs, 9.5 W. Rennie 1 1— SEA COMET (A. J. Julian), ch g, by Day Comet—Seabird, aged, 9.9 T. Chaplin 2 Also started: — 2 Wiltshire, 10.0 E. Syrae, lost rider 0 5 Hauturu, 9.5, lost rider 0 3 Glenlight, 9.5 fell 0 Winner trained by R. Hannon, CambrWon by six lengths. Time, 5m 525. A Thrilling Race The opening event, the Greenmount Hunters’ Steeplechase, was contested by five horses, and three of these failed to complete the journey at the first attempt. Sea Comet was favourite with £643, aeainst Wiltshire £599, Glenliglit’s £469 and Nukutere’s £3BO. The Quintette got over the hill all right, but at the stone wall at the foot Hauturu lost his rider, and Wiltshire also pecked at the second of the double, losing his jockey. Sea Comet had a small advantage here from Glenlight and Nukutere, but once on the hiii the second time Sea Cornet drew -•Way, and Glenlight failed to rise at the first fence there. Nukutere made a great burst coming down the hill, and he was in front of Sea Comet at the stone wall, coming on to score by half a dozen lengths. Fair Abbey at Last There were more incidents in the Hunters' Hurdles, two horses falling and two others failing to complete the journey. The order of betting was Lady Acre £BO3, Just John £746, Mangani £735, Ramblin’ Kid £477 and Fair Abbey £434. Over the first fence and past the post the first time Royal Bonus led from Royal Day, Mangani. Lady Acre, Fair Abbey, Master Noel, Town Hall, Simplicitas, Just John and Whakatoe, Ramblin’ Kid falling at the first fence. There were some changes running to the fence at the five furlongs, where Just John crashed, the order of the leaders being Mangani. Lady Acre, Royal Day and Fair Abbey in close order, followed by Simplicitas, Town Hall and Master Noel. Fair Abbey was half a length in front of Mangani into the straight, their nearest attendants being Lady Acre, Royal Day, Simplicitas ai d Town Hall. Fair Abbey carried too many guns for Mangani in the run from the last obstacle and won by 3 lengths, with Town Hall twenty lengths further back. A walk-in start saw Wyoming and Arch Queen hit the front first, this pair leading past the post from Fiery Lad, Killute, Acushla, Charitaine, Star Comet, Festina Lente and Michael. At the six furlongs Fiery Lad had charge from Wyoming, Acushla, Festina Lente, Arch Queen, Star Comet, Charitaine, Killute and Bright Dawn. Consistent Master Doon Delightmer.t and Royal Present were out of the Jellicoe Handicap, and in a good pool Llandudno £1,440, Master Doon £1,263, Te Kara £1,200, and Queen Arch £613 were the best supported. After the field had gone a furlong Llandudno, Queen Emerald, Harbour View, Master Doon, Queen Arch, Thursby, Tinoiti, Te Kara, Desert Glow and Golden Krist was the order, but out of the sti'aight Queen Arch had run in behind Llandudno, Master Doon, Desert Glow, Queen Emerald and Te Kara following them past the six furlongs. Llandudno was still in front at the home turn, with Queen Arch, Te Kara, Master Doon, Thursby, Tinoiti and Queen Emerald next. At the distance Llandudno and Queen Arch were on terms, and then Master Doon appeared on the scene, the last-named finishing too strongly for Queen Arch, whom he beat by a neck, with Llandudno a length and a-lialf away third. Te Kara was fourth, and next in order were Tinoiti, Queen Emerald, Thursby, Harbour View, Desert. Glow' and Golden Krist. The last-named began slowly and ran in the rear the whole wav. into the sti'aight Wyoming and Acushla were on terms. Athenry, Bright Dawn, Festina Lente, Charitaine and Star Comet, with Captain Cobham next. Til the last furlong Festina Lente came through on the rails to win bv two lengths from Captain Cobham, with Athenry three lengths away. Then came Acushla. JOCKEY INJURED FRACTURED SKULL H. F. Gilmer, the rider of Ramblin’ Kid in the Hunters’ Hurdle Race, the second event at Ellerslie to-day, is suffering from a. fractured skull as the result of a fall, and is seriously ill in the Auckland Hospital. The horse came down during the running of the race, throwing Gilmer heavily. The jockey landed on his head. THEIR FIRST RUN TWO-YEAR-OLD PARADE FLUTTERS AT ELLERSLIE Much interest was manifested in the parade of two-year-olds at Ellerslie this morning. Sixteen came out, and they were dispatched in two divisions, of nine and seven respectively. They were lined up at the barrier at the two furlong post and sprinted to the post, with the following result: DIVISION DUMBLANE (H.
