ON THE ’CHANGE

GOOD TONE PREVAILS MINING WEAK Though the aggregate reported turnover is not great, a healthy tone continues to be registered on the ’Change. Bank, insurance and coal shares are in best demand, and firm buyers are in for most parcels. In coals, Hikurangi ordinary have firmed to see a reported sale at 3s 3d. Sellers now ask 3s 6d. The shipping section is quiet and generally idle. Buyers of Northern Steam have improved to 14s. In timbers. Kauris are sought at 25s 6d, with sellers asking 265. Buyers of Leyland-O’Brien have improved to 35s without drawing a seller. Taupo Totara sellers have made an appearance at 18s. Mining is weak, and though one or two minor companies are receiving attention there is little life in the market. Gilt-edged securities receive scant attention, and one or two classes of bonds and debentures tend to weaken. SALES REGISTERED At yesterday afternoon’s call: —On ’Change: N.2.
