SAFETY OF MARINERS
NEW WIRELESS BEACONS CONSTRUCTION IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless. — Copyright) RUGBY, Thursday. Wireless beacons for assistance in navigation are now under construction. They will be placed at various points around the English coast. The purpose of the beacons is to send out distinctive wireless signals at regular intervals to enable the officers of vessels fitted with wireless direction-finders to take their bearings and accurately determine their positions. These installations will form a valuable addition to the aids to navigation for ensuring the safety of life at sea. They are expected to prove of the greatest assistance when ships are approaching the land, particularly in darkness and in foggy weather. — A. and N.Z.
