LUXURY OF NEW RAILWAY STATIONS

MR. LYSNAR EMPHATIC EAST COAST LINE FIRST (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. It is the definite opinion of All*. W. D. Lysnar, Gisborne, emphatically expressed in the House of Representatives to-day that the East Coast railway should have preference in order of works before new railway stations at Auckland, Lyttelton or Wellington. “This line is a necessity,” he said, “whereas the stations at the centres mentioned are luxuries. Not one more passenger, nor one more pound of goods will be attracted by the new stations, whereas good land will be served by the East Coast line and genuine benefit afforded producers. “The Minister of Public Works is trying to direct this into another direction,” Air. Lysnar went on, “but as this matter is subjudice between the Prime Alinister and myself for the time being I will not tell you about it now.” (Laughter.) Mr. Harris: The Auckland station is necessary.

Mr. Lysnar: You have a station there, but I have to walk miles, or else go by motor, many miles to get to my home. We have not heard anything lately about the double line for the Wairarapa. It may be incubating. I don’t know'.”
