Coal At Kamo.—Coal deposits at Kamo have been opened up by Mr. W. Dickson. Some thousands of tons of good coal are available.
Sir Ernest Hatch Dead.—The death has occurred of Sir Ernest Hatch, Bart., who was for many years a member of the House of Commons, aged 63. —A. and N.Z.-Sun.
Train Arrangements. —The Railway Department is delaying the afternoon Frankton-Rotorua train on Saturday on the occasion of the Putaruru-Mor-rinsville football match at Morrinsville. Particulars are advertised.
Boy Escapees Recaptured.—Two small boys who have been implicated ln recent burglaries in Dunedin and who were detained in a probation home pending the Child Welfare Court dealing with them, escaped on Wednesday night in their night attire, but were arrested in George Street last evening. “-Press Association.
Pay of Politicians.—A joint commit°f both Houses of the Tasmanian Parliament has been appointed to inquire into a proposal by the Government to increase the salaries of members from £3OO a year to £SOO. It is also proposed that the Premier shall receive £1,500. and Ministers £1,250 each.—A. and N.Z.
Van and Lorry Collide.—Slight damwas done to both vehicles when a motor delivery van, belonging to Messrs. C. C. King and Son. grocers, of Mount Eden Road, and a motorlorry belonging to Mr. G. Gustafsson, or Avondale, collided in Mount Eden ■Koad soon after 3 p.m. yesterday. No one was injured.

Daffodil Growing.—Three lecturers dealt with various aspects of daffodil growing at the Horticultural Society’s meeting last evening in St. Andrew's rj all, w here about 200 earlv daffodil blooms were on show. Mr. -T. H. fy'mthwaite discussed classification, ‘j Thornton spoke on general cultivation, and Mr. N. R. Thomas on cross pollination.
