DANGER IN MINES
POWDER LEFT BEHIND PUKEMIRO MINER FINED (From Our Own Correspondent.) HUNTLY, To-day. Alexander Reid, a miner, of Pukemiro, was charged with failing to bring out explosives from his working place after working his shift. Reid concealed the explosives in his working place, and in convicting him Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., strongly commented on this very dangerous practice. In convicting the accused and fining him £5 and 12s costs, the magistrate drew attention to the number of accidents which had occurred recently through explosives being left in the coal and delivered to consumers. Edward McLaughlan and Kio Terawhiti, both miners of Pukemiro, were similarly charged with similar offences on July 11, and each convicted and lined £2 10s, with 12s costs.
