OTOROHANGA COUNTY

METALLLING LOANS WANTED (From Our Oxen Correspondent.) OTOROHANGA, Thursday. A deputation consisting of Messrs. R. H. Cowern, E. H. Oudaille and F. E. Hyde waited on the Otorohanga County Council at its meeting on Tuesday, and asked that a part of their district be formed into a special rating area in order that a better road might be made. The council decided to form the area and to eventually metal the road as far as the Waimahora Junction. The council decided to take no action when a deputation of Puketarata Road settlers asked for the formation of a special rating area to enable them to metal their road. A rate of 1 5-Sd in the £ over the Ngutanui special rating area is to be struck for the purpose of securing the loan for the metalling of a section between Kawa and Kawhia. The chief postmaster wrote stating that the mail contractor for the service between Te Awamutu and Kawhia was experiencing great difficulty in maintaining the service and asked that fascining be carried out in the worst places. A reply at length, had been sent by the county clerk pointing out that the road was to be metalled next summer and the following year and that i? would be a waste, of money to carry out extensive repairs in its present state.
