THAT RANFURLY SHIELD DISPUTE

APPEAL COUNCIL SITS The members of the Appeal Council of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Messrs. J. Arneil, P. Mackie and J. L. Conlan, met last evening to consider the appeal of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union against the decision of the New Zealand Union in awarding the Kanfurly Shield to Wairarapa. The Wairarapa Union protested on the grounds that W. Barclay, who had played in Auckland, had not fulfilled the residential qualification of three weeks in Hawke’s Bay, as set out in rule 43 of the New Zealand Union rules with regard to representative matches. The New Zealand Union upheld the appeal, but Hawke s Bay protested against the decision, and the matter was referred to the Appeal Council. The decision of the Appeal Council will be immediately forwarded to tb*‘ Xew Zealand Union, through which body the result will be made known.
