TAURANGA, Thursday. The first round of the men’s golf championship resulted as follows:—Matheson defeated Goulding, Pott defeated Hetherington, Gibbs defeated Roche, Ralfe defeated Bryan. In the junior championship Snodgrass defeated Ibbetson. Guinness defeated Hanna, Ivory defeated Boyd. Tizard and Baker have still to play. Te Awamutu (From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, Thursday. , In the semi-final match for the Archeen Cup, H. Holmes defeated M. Winter. 3 and 2. Holmes will now meet D. Williams in the final. The following will represent the Te Awamutu Golf Club in the inter-club contest at Otorohanga on Saturday:—Misses Focke, Quin, Wallace, Clifford, Monteifiore; Mesdames Whvte, Jones, Walker; Messrs. The second round of the Hamilton Ladies’ Senior Championship was played yesterday. Mrs. Mander defeated Miss D. Mackay, 1 up; Mrs. Coyne defeated Miss J. Masters, 3 and 2. In the second round of the Junior Championship, Mrs. A. J. Bond defeated Miss Allen, 6 and 5, and Miss Coventry defeated Mrs. Grut, 1 up at the 19th. A meeting of the New Zealand Golf Council was held to-night, when the following resolution was passel:— ‘That the members of the council desire to record their sorrow at the death of their late chairman, Mr. R. C. Kirk, their sense of the great loss the association has suffered and their gratitude for his unselfish service to golf in the Dominion. To Mrs. Kirk and her family the council offers its deep svmpathv. Mr. W. E. A. Gill, of Wellington, was elected the new chairman, and Sir Alexander Roberts was appointed to fill the vacancy on the council caused bv the death of Mr. Kirk.
