NOTED ARTIST DEAD
FOUND SHOT IN STUDIO MR. R. CATON WOODVILLE By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wed. Richard Caton Woodville, the artist, was found shot in his Abbey Road studio, and died on the way to hospital. He had a fine war picture in the last Academy.—Sun. Mr. Woodville was one of the bestknown black and white artists in depicting- battle scenes. His South African war pictures were particularly striking-, and sorrje of his work, depicting scenes in the Great War, were vivid and imaginative. The late Mr. Woodville had a great deal of war experience. lie went through several campaigns, including the Egyptian in 1882, the Turkish in IS7B, and minor operations in Albania and the Hast. He exhibited annually at the Royal Academy and painted several <>f the large pictures now hanging in Windsor Castle. The late Mr. Woodvilb has also published several books and written numbers of magazine articles.
