ROTORUA ROADS
WORK ON MAMAKU After a visit to the Rotorua district, Mr. M. H. Wynyard left Hamilton for Auckland last night. He states that the Main Highways Board is shortly to undertake work at the Matamata end of the Mamaku Hill, where a topdressing of shingle will be applied to put the road in good order for the heavy traffic which is expected. The roads in the Hot Lakes district are in good order, and work has been facilitated by the use of two one-man graders by the board on the pumice roads. They are proving very staisfactory, and another machine is to be put into commission. The graders are capable of doing four cuts daily over a five-mile stretch at a w*orking cost approximating 15s a mile.
