YOUNG JOCKEY

WON MANY DOUBLES THIRTEEN WINNERS IN THREE MONTHS Darby Munro will soon have to change his name to “Double” Munro. On May 7 last he rode his first winner; since that date he has steered 13 first past the judge, and on four occasions he has had two successes on the same day. Darby opened his winning run by landing a double on Release and Spring Days at Warwick Farm, and has since ridden Monoplane and Milong at Gosford, Blather and Rawhetu at Rosehill, and Nostalgia and Little Pacolet at Gosford last week. In recent years only brother Jimmy has beaten him for the speed with which he knocked two pounds off his apprentice’s allowance, and at the rate he is going Darby looks like creating new' figures for the loss of the whole seven pounds. ROUGH THREE-HORSE RACE Nostalgia last week started favourite for the Gosford Mile, being in receipt of two stone from Bongula, while the only other runner, Brendon, was unfancied. At the turn the three runners were almost abreast, Bongula being on the rails, and Munro’s mount, Nostalgia, on the outside. In a scrimmage Bongula was knocked back, Bartle having to sit up and go round the other runners. In the run home Bongula finished past Brendon, but couldn’t catch the leader. A protest was unsuccessful, the stewards taking the view that the result of the race was not affected. On the 14.1 pony, Little Pacolet, Darby, was sent out second favourite for the Maiden Three-year-old, with the Chrysolaus gelding, Rhinestone, best backed. The race was never in doubt. Munro took Little Pacolet to the front early, and although Amplify went past him, once in the straight the pony took the lead at his ease. At the finish he was a length clear.
