TRAINING OF CADETS HIGHER STANDARD WANTED Press Association. NAPIER, Wednesday. The annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors was opened at Napier this morning, Mr. F. J. Ledger, Nelson. presiding. The Mayor of Napier, Mr. J. Vigor Brown, welcomed delegates from all parts of New Zealand. Discussing the report, which showed a membership of 321, the president expressed the opinion that the time had arrived when the qualifications of cadets, and the training they undergo, should be raised in standard. He said h© thought that in future a university training and degree would be necessary for those who wished to progress in the profession. The president also referred to the institute’s dissatisfaction with the reception of a number of applicants for registration by the Engineers’ Registration Board, and suggested that the only course now open was to petition Parliament. The election of officers resulted: President. Mr. Preston Chambers. Auckland; council, Messrs. A. F. Waters, Wellington; A. H. Bogle, Wanganui: and H. L. Paterson, Dunedin; auditor, Mr. W. S.
