“ANKLES PREFERRED”

AT MAJESTIC TO-MORROW The Majestic enjoys a reputation for being first in the field in offering the public attractive innovations in its magnificent weekly entertainments. It inaugurated laughter week, sports week, birthday week and variety week, during which special programmes were selected to provide a definite atmosphere. The week commencing to-morrow offers something entirely new and promises to be the greatest innovation of all. It is entitled “Girl Week,” and the whole programme has been arranged to provide a bright jazz show with a glorious galaxy of girls, and light amusing entertainment. The two-reel comedy ds a jazz version of O. Henry’s story, “Girls,” based on the idea that the happiest moment in a girl’s life are the first ten years at college. A dazzling dance spectacle entitled “The Ballet of Flowers” will be presented by Mme. Edith Baird, in which 40 beautiful girls will take part. They will represent flowers and there will be artistic colour blending. The musical side of the prkogramme is up to the standard of Mr. John WhitefordWaugh’s new orchestra, and that is saying a great deal. An orchestral novelty will be given, entitled “The Elephant and the Fly,” with Mr. Frank Poore playing the piccolo and Mr. Syd. Sly playing the trombone. Other pieces included in the programme are ■ Autumn and Winter” (Grieg), “Ballet Egyptian.” “Pierre and Pierrette” (Percy Fletcher), “Serenade” (Tizgane) and Hungarian Dances (Brahms). The chief picture feature on the bill is “Ankles Preferred.” An excellent cast of players participate in some high-powered comedy in Fox Films latest production, “Ankles Preferred.” Madge Bellamy plays the feature role in a most charming manner. J. Farrell MacDonald, remembered for his work in “The Iron Horse,” “Three Bad Men” and other successes, plays the part of the proprietor of a gown shop in “Ankles Preferred.” To say that he furnishes more than his share of comedy in such surroundings need hardly be mentioned. Miss Bellamy has Lawrence Gray for her leading man. The two make a very charming pair. Their love scenes have fine delicacy and restraint. Allan Forrest, who never seems to lose any of his popularity in spite of the fact that he has played in films for several years, portrays the villain in the piece and does it admirably. Others in the excellent cast include Barry Morton, of “What Price Glory” fame, Marjorie Beebe, Joyce Compton. William Strauss, Lillian Elliott and Mary Foy. The story, which is aptly described as an intimate tale of silk stockings, was written by James Hamilton.
