A GREAT HORSE

KILBRONEY AS A SIRE STOCK WINS £173,000 Since his stock Has been racing, the progeny of Kilbroney have won over £173,000 in stakes, and have kept their sire well in the limelight as a begetter of speedy turf performers. Therefore it is with pleasure that breeders in the Auckland Province and outside —learn that Kilbroney is advertised to stand during the current season at Otahuhu, having been purchased by the well-known sportsmen, Messrs. B. Edwards and Free Holmes, and the horse is now quartered at the Mardella stud at Otahuhu. Since Kilbroney has proved himself as a sire he has got some outstanding performers, winners at all distances from five furlongs to two miles and a-quarter at weight-for-age. WHAT IS WANTED Among the good stayers got by Kilbroney were (to name only a few that come to mind). The Banker, Kilgour, Razzle Dazzle, Ivilboy, Kilmoon, Quiescent and Kilrush, while the following were all winners of classic races from five furlongs to a mile: Killocra, Affectation, Killowen, Kilbrogan, Kilrea and Kilflinn. One advantage possessed by Kilbroney’s progeny is that they come to hand early. Killocra is a good example of this, for he won the Debutante Stakes and the Avondale Stakes, the first two-year-old races of the season. The following table shows the immense winnings of Kilbroney’s stock on the New Zealand turf: —

Quite apart from the doings of his stock, Kilbroney himself was a great performer on the turf, as his victories in England in the Goodwood Cup, Great Metropolitan Stakes and National Produce Stakes testifies. He is by The Wag from Innismakfl, and comes from a fashionable English line. At a fee of 35 guineas the services of Kilbroney should be in great demand by breeders this and following season. During the last six seasons horses by Kilbroney have been placed on no less than 257 occasions, an average of just on 43 per season, and his record last year was up to the average, showing no diminution of vitality.
