HAMILTON RUGBY UNION MEETS
(Special to THE SUN.) HAMILTON, To-day
The Hamilton Rugby Union met last night, Mr. A. S. Cliffe presiding. It was decided that the opening round of the Clarke Cup knock-out competition be played on Saturday, when City meets Technical Old Boys, Franktou plays Old Boys, and Ngaruawahia meets. Huntly.
The match "between Waipu and Matanxata Unions is to be played at Te Awamutu on August 20, the winner to challenge Hamilton for the Peace Cup. Mr. B. S. Marshall was appointed referee. The matter of proceeding with improvements to the grounds and facilities at Rugby Park was stressed, and a sub-committee was set up to report. The referee in the Marist-High School match on Saturday reported to the Junior Advisory Board that he had occasion to order off a Marist player tor wilfully striking an opponent. The player was in attendance and admitted the offence. It was decided to stand him down for two playing Saturdays. The Auckland University Club wrote inquiring if a junior game could be arranged against Hamilton, and the Ponsonby Club sought a third grade game. A reply to University was deferred, the Hamilton Old Boys being given first offer for the other game.
The junior championship final was fixed for August 27 at Ngaruawahia.
