Will Education Boards Go?

ABOLITION LIKELY A RELIABLE REPORT abolition of all education, technical and high school boards is believed to be likely. This information, from a reliable source in Wellington, was received after the Auckland Education Board had concluded its meeting to-day. The letter stated: “The proposal is to abolish education, technical and high school boards, to centralise some of their functions and it is suggested, to invest school committees with increasedpporers,w r ers, but no w r ell thought-out scheme has been presented." Asked for his opinion on the proposal, Mr. A. Burns, chairman of the board, said: “I feel that the committees will share the same fate later on as the boards. It looks as though they are merely putting off the evil day. “It is evidently the intention to abolish all local control of education."
