TAUMARUNUI HOSPITAL
AMERICAN AMBULANCE At the monthly meeting: of the Taumarunui Hospital Board permission was received from George and Elizabeth Mattock, of Castlecliff, for the removal of their son’s grave from the hospital reserve at Ohura to the Ohura Cemetery. It was decided to accept the offer of Messrs Phillips, Impey and Co. of a hospital tablet at a cost of £2l. The board resolved to pay a claim of £7 to Miss Harwood as compensation for the time she was off duty. In connection with this matter, it was agreed to try and recover the amount from the insurance company. A letter was received from the Director-General of Health, asking the board to consider the purchase of a British chassis in preference to an American, for the new motor ambulance, as it was possible the Minister would not remit the duty on the American machine, and would do so on the British. The board considered the matter in the light of its former decision, and as it was considered that the American make was more suitable for the requirements of the district this should be purchased, and the Minister asked to remit the duty.
