TARIFF REDUCTION
FARMERS’ UNION ACTIVITIES LOCAL BODIES’ VIEWS With a view to reducing the cost of production, the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union strongly urge a reduction of Customs taxation. Recently the union circularised Dominion county councils, chambers of commerce, A. and P. associations and farmers’ union executives, asking for an expression on the question. At last evening’s meeting of the Auckland executive replies from all parts of the Dominion were placed before members. All favoured the proposal. “It is most satisfactory to know that we have had such a good response,” said Captain H. M. Rushworth. Mr. A. N. Macky considered the union was on the right lines, and as long as it concerned itself with such important questions it would be doing good, and command attention. “What we have done will have a considerable influence on the decisions of the House,” said the president, Mr. A. A. Ross. He had spoken to several business men on the question, said the speaker, and all had viewed with approval the attitude taken up by the union.
