HINTS BY "HEADLIGHT”
A new car misfired after it had been in service about a week. It seemed to misfire on one cylinder, and did this under all conditions, whether pulling, idling, speeding or coasting. The owner was amazed and was very much disappointed. This was his first car. It could have been any of the troubles that cars are subject to, but being new it was hardly likely that a car of standard make was at fault. The choker had been used so much that one spark plug had fouled from the carbon deposit of unexploded gasoline. Instead of the spark jumping the spark plug- gap. it followed the deposit of carbon with the result that the cylinder did not fire. When the spark plug was cleaned the engine ran perfectly, and after an explanation of the trouble to the owner the engine never misfired again on account of choking it too much.
