HOPE DEFERRED
KAWARAU DAM OPENED LITTLE PROFITS MADE (From Our Own Corespondent.) DUNEDIN, Monday. After holding back the waters of Lake Wakatipu for two months, the gates of the Kawarau Dam were opened yesterday. The full force of the water was not given outlet at the one time on account of the risk of scouring the banks of the river. No large profits were made by the subsidiary companies operating in the riverbed during the term in which the waters were held back. It is understood that Vogel’s Vision Companv recovered about 470 z. of gold. The Natural Bridge Company washed up approximately 250 z. Other companies a nd syndicates secured considerablv smaller returns.
