FIRE AT MATAROA

< From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, To-day. A fire at an early hour on Sunday morning destroyed a five-roomed railway house at Mataroa, occupied by Mr. A. McKenzie and family. They all had a narrow escape in their nightclothes. Another railway employee. c. Porter, made a brave attempt to rescue a girl who it was afterwards proved was not in the house at all. He emerged from the burning building in a state of exhaustion.
