“GENE TUNNEY”
KNIGHT EARNS A NICKNAME CMACK! The impact when Knight hit Robin son, a man about half his size, could be heard by every one of the thousands on the north bank of Pukekura Park. The crowd’s disapproval was shown in a hostile demonstration of almost unparalleled duration and intensity. Knight was christened "Gene Tunney,” and even invited to pose for an amateur’s kodak. His readiness to do so rather redeemed him in the eyes of the crowd.
