WELLINGTON COMPETITION NARROWING DOWN
OLD BOYS AND ATHLETIC Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sunday. With only one Saturday left for play, the local Rugby championship is still undecided. Recent games have eliminated two of the four leaders, who had kept so close together, Petone losing its last chance by its decisive defeat by Poneke on Saturday. Athletic (holders) and Old Boys are now left in with only one point between them. They met on Saturday, and had the latter won, the championship would have been theirs, but they could only draw, and were lucky to do that, though the wet ground was in their favour. They have to meet a strong side next Saturday, while Athletic faces a much weaker one, but as Old Boys are one point ahead, a win will make them safe, while a draw will enable them to tie with Athletic if it also wins. •
