BASIS OF EDUCATION
“IDEALISM WANTED” ADDRESS TO STUDENTS “Idealism in Education” was the subject of the address given by the Rev. D. C. Herron at the Training College tournament service held at St. David's Church last evening. “If New Zealand is going to be the home of a great nation it will be necessary for those educating the present generation to set their backs against the wall and fight for a more idealistic outlook on life,” said Mr. Herron. A system of education which did not have as its basis a belief in a righteous God, and in truth and honour as the foundations upon which all true thought and action must, in his opinion, be a system built upon sand. The result of the idealism that coursed through England’s schools and universities was the series of splendid statesmen appearing in succeeding centuries in the history of England. We want men who are taught to dream dreams, concluded Mr. Herron, and who spend their lives trying to make these dreams come true.
