POSTMAN CANTOR
GETS FREE RIDE Eddie Cantor vouches for the truth of this story, which concerns a free ride given him because of a motion picture make-up he had on. A company had gone to a street location in Los Angeles for scenes for Cantor’s new Paramount comedy. “Special Delivery.” Eddie was late, and followed in a studio car. Arrived at the address, he got out and dismissed the car. It had driven away before he realised that he had given the wrong address. A taxi, parked across the street, offered a solution and Cantor started to cross the street. Just as he reached the centre of the street, a tram car stopped in his path and the motorman opened the door and motioned for Cantor to step aboard. Cantor stepped in and rode the several blocks to the right location, marvelling at the motorman’s courtesy. It i was some time fated that Cantor realised that his complete and authen- \ tic postman’s uniform had won him the free lift.
