ROTARIANS RETURN
BETTER UNDERSTANDING “SMALL ISLAND OFF N.Z. COAST” The Rotary Club Conference which was held at Ostend, Belgium, has done much toward bringing about a better understanding between international peoples. This is the impression gained by Monsignor T. Bourke, of Townsville, Queensland, and the Rev. A. P. Campbell, of Sydney, both of whom are returning to Australia by the Aorangi. Monsignor Bourke stated that the conference was attended by 7,000 delegates representing 31 nations. Some of the Americans had very little knowledge of this side of the world. One of them amazed him by asking, “Is it true that Australia is a small island off the coast of New Zealand?” Mr. Campbell said that many of the Americans made their first acquaintance with Europe at the conference, and it gave them an opportunity to understand Europeans and their problems better. The New Zealanders who attended the conference will be returning later.
