London Hemp Values.—Under date August 10, the London office of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company cabled as follows: Hemp, .New Zealand, good, fair, £37; highpoint, fair, £35 ss; low fair, £34. British Iron and Steel Exports.—Exports of iron and steel products from Great Britain reached in May a tonnage which exceeded that of any month of 1924, 1925, 1926 or 1927, and which represents approximately the maximum tonnage available from export after the needs of the domestic market have been satisfied. Imports on the other hand, continued the downward curve which has characterised them since reaching their peak in January of this year. Trade with India.—American exporters are strengthening their grip on the trade with India. In 1926 India’s merchandise imports from the United States were valued at about £12,500,000, representing 7.2 per cent, of the total imports. America has nowsupplanted Japan as second largest exporter to India. Britain, of course, supplied the greatest share, the value being about £ 53,200,000. This amount was £2,000,000 below the figures for 1925. India’s imports from the United States consist largely of manufactured products, such as kerosene, machinery, hardware, locomotives and automobiles.
