A LITTLE WORLD FOR LITTLE PEOPLE
SUNSHINE
FRIENDSHIP is a steady light shining in dark places
A SUNBEAM remarked to-day, Dawn Lady, that sometimes you must feel very much like the woman who lived in a shoe. And I said that this was probably so, but with a difference, because you are never at a loss to know what to do with all your children. You never lose sight of any of them and they are all equally precious to you. And then you have found the way to make them happy- This is why so many new ones come down Tiptoe Street.” “Wisely spoken, Little Thought,” said the Doorkeeper, slipping the stem of a freesia through the buttonhole of his velvet jacket. “The Sunbeams also know the way to make us happy. I don’t wish to boast, of course, but I should like you to know that one has just given me this buttonhole.” “This little wool posy that l am wearing is from a Sunbeam, too,” said the Dawn Lady. “And they send me pressed flowers,” chimed in the man who keeps the Joy Shop. “They all send their love to me,” said the Little Thought, happily, “and love is an unfading flower. By the way, Dawn Lady, I have ordered a further battalion of Pixie Postmen and they are now taking up their quarters in Tiptoe Street. The original squad seemed unable to cope with the competition mails. I am thinking of employing a woodpecker also.” “A woodpecker ?” said the Dawn Lady, the man who keeps the Joy Shop and the Doorkeeper, all at the same time. . “Why should we have a woodpecker in Happy Town?” The Little Thought twirled on his toes, swept off his hat and, with a merry twinkle in the corner of each eye, bowed low. “For enlarging the hollow in the Hollow Tree,” he said, mischievously.
