THIRD DAY AT RICCARTON Backers Make a Bad Start Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. THE Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting, entered upon the final phase to-day, when the third day s programme is being decided. The weather is fine, and there is again a large attendance. The track is still holding after the copious falls or rain.
Results are as follows: LONGBEACH HANDICAP 6 fur. ~—HOYLAKE, 9.3 1 LINEAGE," !l.io Y. I All started. Won by a head. Time, 1.18 3-5. Outsiders in Hot Finish. Vote was in front early and led on the course proper, with Royal LineLL Kalos. Quantum and Hoylake just Kehlnd Half-way down the straight Koval Lineage ranged alongside .Vote, fnd a little farther on Kalo.s and Hoyiike joined in, a hot finish ending in I-loy-ake winning by a neck from Kalos, who heat Roval Lineage by a head, with Note a similar distance away fourth. AYLESBURY STEEPLECHASE 2 miles. 2 ROYAL WINK, 9.0 1 t-OSTEEMAN, 10.11 2 7-GOOD?ORM, 9.0 3 All started. Won by six lengths. Time, Royal Wink Improves. Hoyal Wink, Os ter man and were first away, but at the first fence Jovial. Royal Wink arrd Greenstone -were almost on terms. There The-Babe fell, ind Greenstone ran off at the second obstacle. Going out of the straight Jovial had a four lengths* lead of Royal Wink, Hokioi, Osterman and Goodform. At Cutts’ Hokioi came down. Jovial in-ti-eased his lead from Royal Wink, who was racing well clear of Osterman and Goodform. There was no change until Jovial, who was still clear of lijs opponents, fell at the second to last fence. This left Royal Wink to come on to win easily by six lengths from Osterman. who was eight lengths in front* of 'Goodform. SYDENHAM HURDLES 2 miles I—ABERFEL DV, 9.11 1 4— PERLB DE LEON, 10.11 2 o— DUBIOUS, 9.10 J All started. Won by two lengths. Tihie, Aberfeldy Proves Himself Rangitahi led past the stand, with Kaikahu, Dubious, Aberfeldy, Perle de Leon and Coastguard racing in close order. A mile from home Rangitahi was showing the way to Kaikahu, Dubious, Perle cfe Leon, Aberfeldy and Coastguard. Going for the turn Kaikahuuran to the head of the field, Dubious, Rangitahi and Perle de Leon being next, and Aberfeldy moving up fast. Rounding the bend Kaikaliu, Dubious and Aberfeldy were together, with Perle de Leon handy. Aberfeldy led over the last hurdle and won with u good deal in hand being two lengths clear of Perle de Leon, who was a similar distance in front of Dubious. Sir Archie defeated Automne over five furlongs, the last three being iun in 42< Te Tahi was galloping on at the finislv of half a mile, which took 56. Raftfcrty and Fair Abbey were on terms after covering a round, the last four furlongs taking 58 2-5. Valentino and Festlna Lente galloped freely over a round, taking 2.18. The last four furlongs were run- in 1.2 3-5. Wyoming was given steady work, but was not timed. Royal Bonus ran. furlongs* in 1.40. Ash Tray, Rapoa and Clockwork took 55 1-5 to go half a mile. They finished as named. Sea . Comet was schooled over the sod wall, and he gave a good display. T. Chaplin was his rider.
Master Noel (C. Scott) jumped two pony hurdles safely. Just John is expected to arrive at Auckland this morning from Taranaki. He will be stabled at W. Mobberley's. CHANGED HANDS RANGITAHI AND RANGIAWHIO SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH (Special to THE SUN.) CHRISTCHURCH. To-day. Rangitahi and Rangiawhio, owned by Mr. A. Miller, of Tamahere, have been sold in the South. They had both fulfilled engagements at the brand National meeting. Rangiawhio was 4 promising, sort of hurdler. „ Satisfactory prices were reached for Longbeach brood mares. Coronata (dam of 3Vaetea, Lady Gay, and Bachelor Gay) sold for 58 guineas; Blather, for 120 guineas; and Skydream, for 325 guineas. Mr. lan Duncan secured the latter pair. Skydream was foaled in England in 1922, and was got by Skyrocket from Little Thoughts.
