Played Football With Enamel Mugs
LAD’S EVENING AMUSEMENT PARENT’S “CHEEK’' TO COURT Peeved at being shut out from a party at a city school, eight lads played fctball with the enamel mugs kept in the coco room and found a further outlet for their energies by pulling up the basketball posts. Accompanied by their mothers and one by his father, they appeared at the Children’s Court to-day charged with having committed mischief to the extent of £1 16s. "They went to the school because they thought there was an open evening on.” said Senior-Sergeant. Edwards, “but they found it was for girls only. They were told they could not go in and they were given a football to play with. After a game or two they went into the coco room at the school and kicked the mugs about. They even jumped on them. Two or three of them pulled up the posts in the basketball ground. “Boys unfortunately will be boys.” said Mr. J. J. Sullivan, who appeared for one of the lads, whose ages ran from 12 to over 2 6 years. “You boys have no right to do this sort of thing. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves,” said Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M. No conviction was entered, but one boy, whose school report was not satisfactory, was placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years. Here the mother interrupted. “No.” she said, “you can’t do that. He has never been away from school. I have his reports.” Mr. Cutten: “The welfare officer will advise you how to look after him.” The mother: ”1 am quite capable of looking after him myself, thank you! I won’t have others interfering with, him! ” Mr. Cutten: “The order is made.” The Mother: “But I’m not going to keep it!” Mr. Cutten: “Go out!” “I won’t!” declared the mother; but she did. Two boys were placed under supervision for a each and the others were discharged.
