STOCKED HIS WARDROBE
SYSTEMATIC THEFTS UNEMPLOYED MAN GAOLED During the past month, James Reid, aged 34, has been making nefarious additions to his wardrobe. He will not be needing the clothes for the next two months. He pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to charges of stealing clothing valued at £8 11s 2d. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said the goods were stolen from shops in Karangahape Road. A woman had seen him at work and reported to the shop-owners. A search was made, and the stolen property recovered. Reid, who was an engineer by trade, had been out of work for 11 months. DRINK THE TROUBLE “I think drink is the cause of the trouble,” said Mr. Edwards. The senior-sergeant suggested that the shopkeepers were courting trouble in leaving their goods exposed and unprotected at the shop fronts. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in sentencing Reid to two months’ imprisonment, said the thefts had been systematic.
