A LITTLE FLUTTER
GAMBLE ON WATERFRONT THREE MEN PROSECUTED Filling in time while waiting for a labour call, three waterside workers played a little game called “Odds on.” They were charged at the Police Court to-day with playing a game of chance, and having gaming instruments in their possession. A Harbour Board caretaker said he saw the game being played in the waterside workers’ shed in Quay Street at two o’clock in the afternoon. The instruments were a board with the names of horses on it, pennies used as counters, and a top which gave the names of horses and a series of odds. Mr. J. J. Sullivan, who appeared for defendants, held that the shed, which was used only by unionists, was not a public place, and the game could not be seen from the footpatTY. The magistrate, Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., reserved his decision.
