EUCHRE
Sir.— I crave a small space in your paper to v air my humble opinion in regard to the decision given by the court against euchre tournaments. It is foolish, in my opinion, to say that chance is so predominant in euchre that skill is of no avail to the player. I have attended euchre- parties for years, and can hom-ctly say that a player has to be both experienced and skilful to be successful at the game. A skilful player can beat a mereiv lucky player at least seven times out of ten. This I have proved rep. atedlv. If those responsible for the stopping of these tournaments are going to be consistent they will have to close every pool room and every totalisator in New Zealand, as there is no difference in paying money to win a prize at euchre and paying in money to the totalisator perhaps to receive a dividend. The same applies to pool-rooms. In conclusion I would like to make a comparison: in the last twelvemonths I have attended 78 euchre partic at a 'cost to myself of about £6. and have won 10 first prizes, eight second prizes and 15 third prizes—total value about £2O. I have also attended two race meetings since Christmas and Invested £l7 10s on the totalisator. I nave received in return two dividends —total value £1 9s od. FAIR PLAY.
