INTER-HOUSE SOCCER COMPETITION

LARGE ENTRIES RECEIVED The Soccer competition between the Auckland business houses and public services will be starting shortly, and entries with Mr. L. C. H. Dawson, secretary, A.F.A., close on Monday next. Record entries are assured for these popular games, and so far the following houses are endeavouring to secure teams for nomination: —Auckland City Council, Farmers’ Trading Company, Milne and Choyce, George Court, Winstone’s, Ltd., Abel's, Ltd., Auckland Milk Company, Auckland Power Board, H.M. Customs, Auckland C.C. Tramways, Auckland Training College, Combined Theatres, Dearsley’s, Ltd. With the evenings lengthening out it is hoped to make a start with the competitions right away, and an executive committee consisting of Messrs. A. P. Neesham, D. McLaren and W. Harry were appointed at the annual meeting to act with Mr. Frank Baker, chairman of the A.F.A. grounds committee, in controlling the contests. The various firms and bodies are giving every encouragement to the competition, and there will be some keen struggling for the possession of the handsome trophy presented by the Farmers’ Trading Company. The following resolution was passed at a meeting of representatives of the business houses competition on Wednesday last: “That not more than' two senior and three second or one senior and four second or five second-grade players take part in- one team in any one game; any team defaulting in this respect will forfeit the game.” Grading of players will be in accordance with A.F.A. rulings. Discussion took place on the difficulty some firms experience in raising a full 11 bona fide players, and it was decided that permission be granted any team to select three outside players subject to confirmation of the grounds and emergency committee prior to the first game. The draw will be made that day and the competition commenced the same week, games starting at 4.30 p.m. each Thursday.
