NORTHERN WAIKATO BOWLING ASSOCIATION

GOOD PROGRESS MADE (From Our Oven Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. The third annual meeting of the Northern Waikato Bowling Association was held this afternoon. Delegates were present from the Pukekohe, Waiuku. Clevedon, Tuakau. Buckland and Patumahoe Clubs. The country representative on the Auckland centre. Mr. A. B. Barter was also present. The retiring president, Mr. J. H. Keith, reported that the association had made good progress during the past season. The annual full-rink tournament, held on the Pukekohe green on Labour Day, proved the most successful in the history of the association. Twenty-four rinks entered. A pairs championship, for which there were 26 entries, was held on Anniversary Day. and its success indicated that it should be worth while making It an annual fixture. A “B” pairs tournament attracted only six entries, but if another tournament were held in the coming season it should be more popular. The cham-pion-of-champions match resulted in keen competition between the singles champion of each club. The association had also played the New South Wales visiting party. Although the financial commitments for the past year were more than double those of the previous year, the financial statement showed a small credit balance. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. E. D. McLennan. M.P.; president. Mr. W. E. Johns; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs. R. J. Patton and A. D. Bell; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F- A. Hosking; match committee. Messrs. G. H. Armstrong, Patton and R. King. It was decided to suggest that each affiliated club should have its opening day on the same date.

The following fixtures were decided on for the coming season:—Labour Day, October 24, full-rink tournament; February 11, championship pairs tournament and “B” pairs tournament: March 3, singles championship. It was also agreed that the association should play the South Auckland centre and the Taranaki touring party during the season.
